Didn't get the job because of 5-year career gap

When it comes to recruiting, I think many hiring managers are always curious about the career gap of potential candidates.

Sadly, they use it as a criteria or way to disqualify them.

I have seen cases in which candidates were rejected because they have been unemployed for x-number of years.
But, whose fault is that?
Do we blame them because they couldn't get immediate employment? Some had to take care of their family and personal affairs
Some fell ill
Some even tried their possible best to secure a new job, but, simply didn't succeed.

Instead of disqualifying candidates because of the career gap, why not ask the candidates these questions during interview:
What did you do during those years?
What skills or certificates did you acquire?
Are you fully ready to come back?

This is what I have discovered about life as an employer, 'no one wants to be unemployed'. Sometimes, circumstances are beyond human control.

Let's not complicate it any further. Don’t hurt people’s life over nonsense like career gap.

After all, no one is better than another, we are just privileged.
